Joining The Walk

From SS Walkabout

Well, You've Made It This Far...

Cruising Through Our Lives, Civilian Style
Cruising Through Our Lives, Civilian Style

If you, dear reader, have already briefly viewed the other pages, or even the main page, you would come to realise that this starship is certainly not typical to those normally seen around the Galaxy. This cargo ship is run by non-Starfleet personnel, but yet we still have rules. We welcome most forms and walks of life, with a few obvious exceptions. We do not welcome ex-borg, Q, time shifted/parallel universe moved beings; if your mother's cousin on your aunt's side's uncle happens to be Captain Kirk, then you better have a damn good reason for not following your Starfleet roots, and are wanting to be a cargo shipping scally-wag instead.

Because the Walkabout does not report into Starfleet annually, or follow a Prime Directive, or have a holodeck you can escape to, characters must be, or learn to be, able to occupy their time with their own wits, or with the wits of others. This trip does not have to be boring, and in fact can be as exciting as you wish it to be. It's simply a matter of imagination and development. Detailed characters with an intriguing background, attitude, life, abilities are more likely to be accepted than those whom are not.

Also a note to those whom apply: The CO will most likely be contacting you to ask you lots of questions about your character, how they will fit into the ship, why they are they, why they joined, what their purpose is, etc etc etc. Refrain from repeating yourself: Put them in your biography to avoid questioning.

Bounty Hunters, secret agents, mutant killers, and assassins are asked to please inform the CO of your secret natures, and to also explain your reason for boarding the ship. While the CO may not know of your true nature In Character (In Game), Out of Character Knowledge of this will greatly increase game play.

Lastly, while Biographies are available to crew members outside of the game on this website, Crew Records are not on public show for all on board the Cargo Freighter. Just as knowledge of Zhou's tattoos are not common, also is the knowledge of his martial arts skills not common to all.

More Helpful tips - What To Not Apply As

Here on the Walkabout, we've found that some people have common misconceptions as to what types of characters are more likely to be accepted in the application process. As a result, we of the SS Walkabout have deduced a little helpful guide so that you, the new prospective player, may be given a higher chance to join our hearty crew. These examples below are what we, the crew, no longer want to see, don't think are appropriate, and basically we laugh at, a lot.

Runaway Assassin/Spy (we don't like you)

Examples: James Bond, Jason Bourne, Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Bebop, and Electra
The character once worked for one the Quadrants governments (either willingly or unwillingly) due to some event the agent becomes disassociated with the organisation and runs away or is hunted for whatever reason.

Muscle (currently full)

Examples: Jayne from the Firefly series, Lt Worf, any Red Shirt from Star Trek: TOS, Jet Black
The character just loves to hit things, preferably people. Generally works as a grunt, bounty hunter, or mercenary; sometimes not that smart, but always up for a fight.

Engineers (currently full)

Examples: Scotty, Kaylee, Tripp, Cid from FF Series
This character was just born with a knack for all things mechanical, and has always worked somewhere on engines of some sort or another.

Starfleet Drop-out (despite what you think, don't work well with civilians, go back to SF)

Examples: Tom Paris, B'Elanna Torres, Chakotay
This character was part of Startfleet or Starfleet Academy but had a falling out of some kind with that organisation. Whether this was dropping out of the Academy, court-martial, or desertion, it doesn't matter: That military training is imbedded into your skull like toilet training. Go back to Starfleet, for all our sakes.

Cargo handlers with a shadowy past (currently full)

This character is running from the law, insane ex-spouse, or someone else. People choosing to apply for the Cargo Handlers position would be encouraged to apply as the average Joe just looking for work. If that's not exciting enough for you, gain Force powers and join a Star Wars simulation instead.

Any Characters completely stolen from other TV Shows and/or fiction works (hello, plagiarism?)

Examples of those we've had apply: Farscape characters, Battlestar Galactica characters, characters related to big shots from most Star Trek series
These characters are carbon copies of characters which already exist, if not in Star Trek, then in some other work, like Stargate, Farscape, Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica, Andromeda, DC or Marvel Comics, and so on. Though we don't like to treat you, dear reader, like a dimwit, for those who don't understand the hesitation, plagiarism is ILLEGAL, and will not be condoned by this sim, or it's members.

Positions Vacant

Every now and then, we'll have a couple of positions which may need filling. Ultimately, the decision rests with the Captain, the First Mate, and the crew on whether a position is needed, can be created, or whether someone is accepted. Below is a list of positions that we'd like filled for we create others, so have a quick look before you go on.

Still interested? Reckon you can brave it, mate?

Then copy down the basic headings you'll need from Robert Zhou's biography, write out a biography of the appropriate length (photos of your character earn you extra points), and email it to this email
